Gol Gumbaz - Bijapur(North Karnataka), India.
Story of this photo:
Gol Gumbaz is the tomb of Sultan of Mohammed Adil Shah(1627 - 1656) of Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur. It is situated in the city of Bijapur, North Karnataka. This 51 meter high monument has a colossal dome which the second largest unsupported dome in the world. The dome is also a magical whispering gallery. If you whisper something to one of the walls, a person standing near the opposite side can hear it amplified. It was conceptualized as a grant resting place for the Sultan. However, masses of excited tourists experiment the whispering gallery by shouting out at the top of their voices! They have totally ruined the serenity of the tomb. Sadly, the Sultan would never be able to rest in his palatial tomb thanks to the constant screaming, yelling, singing and whistling of the travelers.
