Where the photo was taken?

North Paravur, Near  Cochin - Kerala

Story behind the photo

I have encountered countless sign boards during my journeys. However, this sign board standing in the middle of water was something different and new to me. Seeing it, I cheered like a kid. My husband immediately clicked this photo from inside our boat. Even now when I see it, a smile crosses my lips. We were on the Muziris heritage boat tour through the back waters of North Paravur in Eranakulam district of Kerala. This sign board says "Muziris Heritage Program, Paravur creek". Due to it's unique location, most of the paint has peeled off. Nevertheless, it remains as one of the strangest sign boards that I ever saw. My first thoughts seeing it was "Who put it there?" "Did some diver go inside the water to fix the sign board there?", "How does the foundation stands stable in the turbulent water?" Throughout the trip we encountered many such sign boards erected in the fast flowing backwater. These are installed by Kerala Tourism Department as a part of Muziris Heritage tour - which is a unique concept in itself. It is conceptualized  as a hop-on hop-off boat trip which connects ancient Jewish synagogues, Forts, Palaces of local rulers and excavation sites.  This area is also very important archaeological site, which is believed to have participated in trade with Romans starting in 600BC.
